Boost NTPC coal production: NTPC aims to elevate mining output to 100 MT; Strengthening coal dispatch systems and exploring critical minerals emphasized

Ranchi: Chairman and managing director (CMD), National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd Gurdeep Singh on Monday emphasised on the need to enhance NTPC Mining Limited’s (NML) coal production to 100 million tonnes (MT).He was speaking virtually during the inaugural of Stratum 2025, a two-day national mining conference, organized by NML in Ranchi. The conference focuses on strategic transformation, resource acquisition and technology upgradation in mining. It also provides a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation and collaborative dialogue in mining sector, officials said.The CMD said, “There is need to enhance production from the current target of 30 million tonne (MT) per annum to 100 million tonne per annum.

Diversification in mining, including exploration of other mineral resources such as critical minerals is also important. There is no reason why NML should become the top coal mining companies.”He also emphasised on strengthening coal dispatch systems stating that it is an area of concern. Singh added that talks have been held at the highest level including railway chairman and the group of ministers on the issue.He also touched upon initiatives related to coal gasification and carbon sequestration as part of NTPC’s broader energy strategy.
