Police have identified 24-year-old Benjamin Erickson as the suspect in custody for the Brown University shooting that killed two people and injured nine others on Saturday, according to three senior law enforcement officials who briefed NBC News.Public records reveal Erickson currently resides in Washington, DC, where he was registered to vote in 2023 with a "statehood" party affiliation. Previous records show he was registered to vote in Wisconsin in 2020, listing "military" under voter information.Army Spokesperson LTC Ruth Castro provided details of Erickson's military service: "Benjamin W Erickson was an Infantryman (11B) in the Regular Army from May 2021 to November 2024.

He has no deployments and left the Army in the rank of specialist."Initial searches indicate no prior criminal record for Erickson. Law enforcement officials are investigating what they believe could be an extensive mental health history for the suspect.
