Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti has appealed to the public to join hands with the administration in creating a healthy society by stopping the consumption and peddling of drugs.

Mr. Kavalikatti, who recently took charge as Deputy Commissioner of the district, flagged off an awareness campaign against drug menace, jointly organised by the district administration, Rotary Club Shimoga Midtown, and Parivarthana Trust, at his office in Shivamogga on January 6.

Many people, he said, picked up the bad habit at a young age out of curiosity, and it gradually became an addiction. Hundreds of youngsters lost their lives owing to the addiction. “The youth should not stay attracted to substances that harm their health and take away their precious lives. Society has the responsibility to ensure the youth do not fall for it. Parents need to play a major role in creating a drug-free society,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

S.N. Channabasappa, Shivamogga MLA, who also took part in the inauguration of the campaign, said that such campaigns are necessary to fight against drug menace. There have been many campaigns to spread awareness against bad habits; ironically, the government has been issuing licenses to liquor shops, he pointed out.

Balkhees Banu, MLC, Abhishek V., Additional Deputy Commissioner, and representatives of Rotary Club Shimoga Midtown were present.
