Expect sunlit afternoons that bring a hint of warmth, while chilly nights and early mornings linger on. Residents in northern Bihar should prepare for thick fog and follow health recommendations to stay cozy and secure.

Patna: Bihar is likely to move from an orange to a yellow alert on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, forecasting relief from severe cold day-like conditions in its Tuesday bulletin.On Tuesday, Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 8.7°C and a maximum of 19.2°C. The widening gap between day and night temperatures brought some relief after nearly two weeks of persistent cold. Bright sunshine also provided a break from dense fog in several areas.However, the IMD warned of a mixed weather pattern over the next week. While daytime temperatures are expected to remain stable, night temperatures may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across most districts.

As a result, afternoons may feel warmer under clearer skies, but late nights and early mornings will continue to be cold.Dense fog is likely to persist in parts of north Bihar. Warnings have been issued for districts including Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Madhubani, Katihar and Supaul, among others.Meanwhile, the Patna district administration has issued a public health advisory, urging residents to limit outdoor exposure during cold hours.

People have been advised to wear multiple layers of loose, warm clothing and keep their head and hands covered. The advisory also recommends consuming hot beverages and vitamin C-rich foods.Residents have been cautioned against leaving fires unattended and advised not to use coal or candles in closed rooms due to the risk of toxic fumes. Special care should be taken of the elderly and children. Immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms of hypothermia or frostbite, such as extreme shivering or skin discolouration, are noticed.
