Cuttack Cyber Police Arrest 2 For Viewing, Downloading Obscene Videos Of Minors

Cuttack Cyber Police arrested Mukesh Barik and Syed Arif Ali for storing obscene videos of minors, tracked by NCMEC under WHO, with support from NCRB and I4C.

In a major crackdown on online crimes against children, the Cuttack Cyber Police have arrested two men for viewing and downloading obscene videos of minors on their mobile phones.

Police said the accused, identified as Mukesh Barik of Jajpur district and Syed Arif Ali of Salepur area in Cuttack district, had been watching and storing such illegal content for a long time.

“Their activities came under the scanner of an international organisation, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which operates under the World Health Organization (WHO). The organisation had been monitoring accused online activities using advanced surveillance technology for last one year," police said.

They further said: “Through Mukesh’s email ID, NCMEC tracked the photos and videos stored in his mobile gallery and shared his IP address with India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The information was then forwarded to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), following which the Odisha Cyber Unit identified and arrested the accused."

Police said while Mukesh Barik was arrested from Jajpur, Syed Arif Ali was nabbed two days earlier by the Salepur police on similar charges and was produced him before the court

The Cuttack DCP stated that the police are keeping strict vigil on such cyber crimes and warned that anyone involved in viewing, downloading, or storing child pornography will not be spared as per law.
