Aditya Dhar’s 'Dhurandhar', led by Ranveer Singh and also starred Akshaye Khanna R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal hit theatres on December 5 and has already crossed the ₹500 crore mark at the global box office.
Beyond its commercial success, the film and Ranveer’s character Hamza Ali Mazari have sparked a fresh meme trend, with influencers humorously portraying undercover spies in Pakistan who end up being exposed because of unmistakably Indian habits.Several Instagram and YouTube creators have jumped on the trend, often stepping into the shoes of Hamza from Dhurandhar. In these videos, they blend seamlessly into Pakistani surroundings while pursuing their maksad (mission), only for small, very desi mannerisms to reveal their true identity. In one popular clip, influencer Saloni Gaur hands over documents to a Pakistani man, but instantly gives herself away through her instinctive reaction when the papers slip from her hands. Another video by creator Kishore shows a spy grooving confidently to Flipperachi’s FA9LA, only to be exposed when he follows the superstition of not waking up on his left side.
Creators Dhruv and Shyam, who run the page Funcho, shared a video where one of them greets a Pakistani and then instinctively does a pranam by touching his feet.
In another clip, influencer Mandy lands in trouble after shaking hands and then touching his chest and kissing his fingers — a gesture commonly seen in desi culture.“Aadat se majboor (force of habit),” joked creator Diljeet Varshney, whose spy cover is blown when he excitedly says, “Ab ki baar, Modi sarkaar (This time, it’s Modi’s governance).”Social media users have been thoroughly entertained by the wave of Dhurandhar-inspired spy memes.
Reacting to one such video, a Reddit user quipped, “Mean while mom is soo happy, ladka videsh janeke bad bhi sanskar nahi bhula. (Meanwhile, his mom is so happy because he hasn’t forgotten traditions even after doing abroad).”
Another user wrote, “Finally a good meme, which is not cringe.” One Instagram user commented, “I love how both the nations find it funny,” while another playfully added, “Assalam pranam.” A different comment read, “Spy training from online classes be like..” while someone else joked, “Spy agent name - tulsi das khan.” Another video showed a 'Gujarati' spy in Pakistan who also cannot resist playing Garba.
At the Indian box office, 'Dhurandhar' has now crossed Rs 360 crore. The second part of the film is set to release in March 2026.
