Dibrugarh: To honour the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the postgraduate unit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Dibrugarh University (DU) organised a spirited ‘Run for Swadeshi’ on Monday.
The event held on the university campus marked the nationwide celebration of National Youth Day.The primary objective of the run was to instil the ideals of nationalism, self-reliance (atmanirbharta) and youth empowerment — core philosophies championed by Swami Vivekananda.Jitu Borah, the programme officer of the NSS DU PG unit, officially flagged off the run. Addressing the gathering, Borah emphasised the relevance of swadeshi values in the modern era, urging students to move beyond academic excellence and actively contribute to the nation’s socio-economic fabric.The ‘Run for Swadeshi’ saw a turnout of approximately 200 participants, comprising dedicated NCC cadets and NSS volunteers. Participants ran through a designated route across the lush green campus, waving the tricolour and chanting slogans that echoed the call for a self-reliant India.Vice-chancellor Prof. Jiten Hazarika praised the initiative, stating, “Swami Vivekananda’s vision of a strong, self-reliant India resonates today more than ever. Events like ‘Run for Swadeshi’ empower our youth to channel their vigour into meaningful action for Viksit Bharat. National Youth Day is not just a celebration but a call to embody Vivekananda’s mantra of ‘Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached’ in our daily lives.
”The event concluded with a formal assembly where participants pledged to uphold the values of integrity and service to the country.
