La Liga giants Real Madrid parted ways with Xabi Alonso as the Los Blancos’ defeat in the final of the Spanish Super Cup against arch-rivals Barcelona proved to be the last straw in what was a rocky relationship to say the least.

Alonso arrived in the Spanish Capital City after a stupendous spell in charge of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, where he led the side to their maiden Bundesliga title with an unbeaten record. And while his move to the Madrid giants, whom he had represented to great success as a player, seemed like a step forward for the former midfield maestro in his coaching journey, it proved to be anything but.

The egos and star-power at Madrid proved too much for the Spaniard to manage as a majority of the squad lost confidence in the methods of the boss, who has been accused of ‘over-coaching’ the start-studded Madrid lineup which includes the likes of French World Cup-winner Kylian Mbappe, Brazilian stars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, English superstar Jude Bellingham among other top-tier names.

It has recently been revealed that Alonso had erupted at the side’s frivolity as early as November with the coach slamming the side with his harsh-but-true criticism of the team.

“I didn’t know I came here to coach little children," the coach had agonized over the chemistry within the team and the players’ attitude towards the coach’s methods.

Real Madrid appointed Alonso after parting ways with former coach Carlo Ancelotti, who moved on to take the Brazil head coach role as the South American giants looks to add the sixth star to their famous yellow jersey at the upcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup slated to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico. Following the sacking of Alonso, the Madrid giants have appointed former player Alvaro Arbeloa to helm the side.

Madrid stand second in the Spanish top-flight with 45 points from 19 outings, 4 points behind leaders and holders Barcelona.
