Tamil Thalaivas captain and India’s kabaddi skipper, Pawan Sehrawat, has become the center of controversy after being sent home midway through Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12 on disciplinary grounds.
The franchise confirmed his release in a public statement, while Sehrawat responded with a defiant message to fans, insisting on his innocence.
Sehrawat Responds to Allegations
Hours after the announcement, the 29-year-old posted a video on social media, which has since gone viral.
In the clip, Sehrawat addressed the charges and issued a bold declaration:
“The franchise has put allegations of indiscipline against me, and I have been a part of the Indian team and am fully aware of what discipline means. If I am found to be indisciplined anywhere or if the allegations against me prove to be true, I will not play kabaddi ever again."
He also reflected on his past with the Thalaivas and the challenges he has faced:
“After yesterday’s post, I thank all of you for your calls and messages. I was in the same team in season 9, and I received a lot of support through my injury back then. Arjun, my younger brother, and I made a lot of plans to take the team forward. However, we were unable to do so due to a particular individual."
“The team has called me undisciplined. I have been a part of the India team. I know very well what the meaning of discipline is. Whatever the allegations are against me, even if it is only 1% true, I can assure you that I will stop playing Kabaddi. I am still standing firm on this. I say that I am right everywhere and I am not wrong anywhere," Pawan Sehrawat continued, wearing the India jersey.
“My message to Tamil Thalaivas is that you play well. Take the team to the top. All the best," the video concludes.
Franchise’s Official Statement
Tamil Thalaivas confirmed the decision via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, though they stopped short of detailing the alleged incident.
“Pawan Sehrawat has been sent home from the squad for the remainder of the season owing to disciplinary reasons. This decision has been made after due consideration and in alignment with the team’s code of conduct," the franchise posted.
A Major Setback for Thalaivas
The loss of Sehrawat is a massive blow for Tamil Thalaivas’ campaign. Signed for ₹59.5 lakh after his stint with Telugu Titans, he was the marquee player around whom the team hoped to build its season.
His abrupt exit leaves the side not only without their captain but also without one of the most accomplished raiders in the league’s history.
What Next for Indian Kabaddi’s Poster Boy?
Nicknamed “Hi-Flyer" for his explosive raids, Sehrawat remains one of the most high-profile faces of Indian kabaddi. As captain of the national team, his reputation extends beyond PKL, making the disciplinary allegations all the more damaging.
With Sehrawat vowing to quit the sport altogether if found guilty, the saga has thrown his future — and the Thalaivas’ season — into uncertainty.
