Illegal Sand Smuggler Attacks District Administration Team in Chatra, Injures Two Chowkidars

Chatra: An illegal sand smuggler on Tuesday attacked a team of district administration personnel, injuring two chowkidars in Hunterganj block in Chatra district. The incident occurred when the team, acting on a tip-off about illegal sand transportation, proceeded with a crackdown.Hunterganj circle officer (CO) Hrithik Kumar, after seizing a tractor along with his team, was transporting the sand-laden vehicle from Khuntikewal to Hunterganj police station. For security, two chowkidars were seated on the seized tractor.However, as the CO’s vehicle moved ahead, the tractor’s owner and driver, Anuj Yadav, began racing the vehicle. This caused chowkidar Yogendra Kumar to fall from the tractor onto the road.

The tractor then ran over Yogendra’s thighs before overturning. Anuj Yadav fled the scene thereafter, according to sources. Another chowkidar, Akhilesh Ganjhu, also sustained injuries during the incident.Shortly after receiving information, the CO and Hunterganj police rushed back to the site and transported both injured individuals to sadar hospital for treatment. After initial first aid, doctors referred Yogendra to Rims in Ranchi. He is a resident of Sinduwari Badhar village in the sadar police station area.Officer in-charge of Hunterganj police station Prabhat Kumar said, “We have seized the tractor and raids are on to nab its owner-cum-driver.”
