Public Confidence, Extremism Eradication, Organized Crime & Cyber Security

On New Year’s Eve, Tadasha Mishra was appointed as the full-time DGP of Jharkhand on the last day of 2025, the day she superannuated. After assuming office, Tadasha Misrah talks to TOI’s Sanjay Sahay on her priorities and the challenges before the state police force in 2026.

Excerpts:What would be your main focus for the state police this year?Among my priorities is developing public confidence in the police. Currently, a gap appears to exist, with people hesitant to contact the police when in need. Police need to adopt a more humane approach to addressing public problems. Initiatives like ‘janshikayat samadhan’ are being conducted by the police. More such examples are likely this year.

Women and children are vulnerable sections of society, and they also need police help. The state police have set a deadline to eradicate extremism by March 31 this year. Are you hopeful of achieving this target?I am very hopeful, and work is in progress in this direction. Extremism is on the wane in the state except in a few pockets. A multi-disciplinary and concerted effort would be made towards achieving this target this year.

When I was the SP of Bokaro, there were places like Nawadih where road opening parties (ROP) were deployed before police movement. Normal situation has returned there now. Development works are being carried out in the areas which are freed from Naxals or extremist outfits. The state has seen organised crime groups rearing their ugly heads and emerging as a challenge for the police. How do you plan to tackle them?I have talked to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director to take measures for the extradition of the gangsters hiding abroad and using their local connections to threaten businessmen in the state.

I would appeal to all the victims to approach the police when they get calls from these crime syndicates to help the police in eradicating them. Cybercriminals are also emerging as another big challenge. What are the measures to subdue them? The state police will be more tech-savvy to remain a step ahead of the cybercriminals to curb the growing menace of digital crimes. Training of the personnel is already underway.
