A 48-year-old man bled to death after suffering a serious neck injury caused by a kite string in Karnataka’s Bidar district.

The victim, identified as Sanjukumar Hosamani, was riding near the Talamadagi Bridge when a tightly stretched kite string across the road caused a severe injury. He began bleeding heavily and soon lost control of his motorcycle, collapsing on the road.

In a disturbing video that has since surfaced, Hosamani is seen lying on the ground, covered in blood, trying to dial his daughter’s phone number moments after the incident.

A passer-by noticed Hosamani and attempted to help by placing a cloth on the wound to slow the bleeding. According to local residents, an ambulance was called immediately. However, Hosamani died before medical help could reach the spot, NDTV reported.

Family members alleged that a delay in the arrival of emergency services proved fatal and said he may have survived if help had arrived sooner. Following the incident, relatives and local residents gathered near the accident site and staged a protest.

They demanded strict action against the use of nylon kite strings and improvements in emergency response services.

Police said a case has been registered at the Manna Ekhelli Police Station and an investigation is underway.

Kite flying during festivals such as Makar Sankranti is a long-standing tradition in many parts of the country. Earlier, cotton strings were commonly used, but in recent years, nylon strings—often referred to as Chinese manjha—have become widespread due to their strength and low cost. However, their sharp and durable nature makes them extremely hazardous.
