The Magh Mela is underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The religious event attracts thousands of devotees from all over the country. The 45-day event will last till February 15 and is expected to attract around 15 crore devotees. The event has already attracted buzz for its state-of-the-art tent colony developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC). These tents, constructed as part of the Sangam Tent Colony, will offer visitors a premium experience and also manage the heavy flow of tourists.
These tents have been constructed at Sector 7, UPSTDC Tent City, VIP Arail Ghat. As per reports, Yagyashalas have been built within the tent colony, and bhajan-kirtan and cultural performances will take place regularly. A Kalagram has also been created to promote local crafts. Under the ‘One District One Product’ programme, stalls showcasing the traditional moonj craft, made by handweaving a special type of grass, are also part of the tent colony.
“The Sangam Tent Colony reflects CM Yogi Adityanath’s approach of ensuring that large religious gatherings are supported by planned facilities that serve both pilgrims and local communities. Magh Mela is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity to strengthen tourism systems and provide income avenues for local artisans and service providers. The UPSTDC-managed tent colony is aimed at meeting the pressure of rising footfall around Makar Sankranti," tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said, as per The Times of India.

What Is Magh Mela?
The Magh Mela is a 45-day-long religious fair that starts at Paush Purnima, which is the full moon day in the month of Paush, and ends at Mahashivaratri. The mela commences with a snan (ritual dip). The event takes place at the Triveni Sangam, which is where the sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the legendary Saraswati meet.
Difference Between Magh Mela And Kumbh Mela?
The Kumbh Mela and Magh Mela are two different religious events. The Kumbh Mela is held every twelve years, while the Magh Mela takes place annually. The Magh Mela is marked only during the month of Magh, which corresponds to January and February in the Gregorian calendar. Lastly, while the Magh Mela takes place only in Prayagraj, the Kumbh Mela is celebrated at Ujjain, Nashik, Prayagraj and Haridwar.
