Two candidates have so far filed nomination papers in Thiruvananthapuram district for the April 9 Assembly elections.
A. Saboora of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) [SUCI] filed her papers in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency while K. Prasad of the SUCI (Communist) filed his papers in Nemom, the district administration said. March 23 is the last day for filing the nomination papers.
The scrutiny will be held on March 24 and March 26 is the deadline for withdrawing the nominations. Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing in the district for the election.
District Collector Anu Kumari chaired a meeting of the expenditure observers, police, excise and returning officers on Thursday. It has been decided to tighten surveillance along the State border with Tamil Nadu to prevent drugs and liquor from being smuggled into the district. A special squad has also been appointed to monitor bank transactions.
