Main accused in Barh murder case arrested

Patna: Police on Monday night arrested the prime accused in the murder of Dharmveer Paswan, who was shot dead over personal enmity in Patna district’s Barh sub-division.A special police team, formed to investigate the murder case, arrested the main accused, Dheeraj Kumar Mahto.The incident took place on Jan 3 at around 8pm in Jal Govind village under Barh police station area, after Dharmveer was allegedly pressured to withdraw an assault case. The accused, Dheeraj, arrived at the residence of Raghuveer Paswan and opened fire at his brother, Dharmveer, due to a long-standing rivalry between the two.Critically injured Dharmveer received initial treatment locally before being rushed to a hospital in Patna, where he was declared dead.

Raghuveer subsequently filed a complaint at the Barh police station.SDPO-I of Barh, Anand Kumar Singh, said five people were named as accused in the case: The husband of local mukhiya Arvind Mahto, alias Bhagat Mukhiya; Dheeraj; Shravan Mahto; Avinash Mahto; and Markari.“Given the seriousness of the offence, a dedicated investigation team was formed. Using a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team carried out continuous operations, resulting in the arrest of Dheeraj,” he said, while addressing reporters here on Tuesday.The SDPO said search for the remaining accused is going on. “The weapon used in the crime has not been recovered yet, but efforts are underway to seize it,” he said.
