MEERUT: A 50-year-old woman who was struck on her head with a sharp-edged weapon while trying to shield her daughter from abductors in Meerut's Kapsaad village on Thursday morning later succumbed to her injuries during treatment, police said.Meerut SSP Vipin Tada said a case of murder and abduction has been registered, and five police teams have been formed to trace the abducted woman and arrest the accused. Sunita Devi is survived by five children - three sons and two daughters.Sunita was walking to the fields with her 20-year-old daughter when they were intercepted near a canal bridge by village residents Paras Rajput (25) and Sunil Kumar, along with several unidentified accomplices.Police said the accused attempted to forcibly take the girl away. When Sunita resisted and tried to stop them, the attackers allegedly abused her and struck her on the head with a sharp-edged weapon. She collapsed with critical injuries, while the accused fled with her daughter.Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and alerted police. Sunita was taken to a nearby private hospital, where she died during treatment. The main accused, Paras, who worked as an assistant to a local doctor, is absconding along with other miscreants, police said.
