Minister for Medical Education and Raichur district in-charge Sharan Prakash Patil has said that the State government is planning to establish cancer and superspeciality hospitals in each district with a vision to extending universal health coverage to citizens.
He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for constructing the Kidwai Peripheral Cancer Unit on the grounds of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, which comes under the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), in Raichur on Sunday.
The Kidwai Peripheral Cancer Unit will come up at a cost of ₹20 crore to treat cancer patients.
“A trauma care centre and a cancer unit have been announced for Raichur district in the budget. The trauma care centre is already constructed and now, the foundation stone has been laid for constructing the cancer treatment unit. We are doing what we promised,” Dr. Patil said and added that each district in the State will get a cancer and superspeciality hospital to provide universal health coverage to the needy.
Minister for Minor Irrigation N.S. Boseraju said that the State government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is strengthening the health sector by establishing new hospitals.
“People of the district were expecting the cancer hospital. Dr. Patil put in efforts to establish such a key healthcare unit in Raichur district, with adequate grants. I appeal to people to make use of this facility,” Mr. Boseraju said.
The Ministers also dedicated a hostel being built for girl students of B.Sc Nursing. The hostel has come up at a cost of ₹450 lakh.
