Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam on Monday inaugurated the new integrated market complex and several other civic projects in Cuddalore, implemented at a total outlay of ₹8.65 crore.
Spread over 59,434 sq.metres, the new market has been built under the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme at a cost of ₹5.77 crore. The market has 28 wholesale shops, 97 retail outlets, ATM, toilets and other facilities for traders.
Mr. Nehru also inaugurated the new building for the Kattumannarkovil panchayat, additional classrooms at Kothangudi built at a cost of ₹52.50 lakh and the renovated Ayikulam in Chidambaram.
Over the past five years, works to the tune of ₹1262.68 crore were executed in urban local bodies in Cuddalore district, he said.
Mr. Panneerselvam said that road improvement works to the tune of ₹100 crore were underway in areas within the jurisdiction of Chidambaram municipality. A combined drinking water supply scheme benefitting 36 habitations is being implemented under the AMRUT 2.0 and Jal Jeevan Mission at an estimated outlay of ₹255.64 crore, he said.
