Nagaland dy CM urges public help for police, calls for timely reporting

Dimapur: Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton, who also holds the home portfolio, has urged the public to actively support the police by reporting crimes and cooperating with law enforcement, an official report said on Tuesday.Speaking at the inauguration of the new SP office building and police barrack at Wokha on Monday, Patton highlighted the issue of under-reported cases. He stressed the importance of timely registration of complaints to ensure effective policing and better access to resources.On the state’s police recruitment process, Patton assured that selections would remain free, fair, and strictly merit-based. He also congratulated the Wokha district police and the SP for successfully completing the new infrastructure and expressed gratitude to the land donor for generously contributing land for the project.Addressing the gathering, DGP Rupin Sharma underscored the role of district police as first responders, noting that registered cases often fail to reflect the ground reality due to underreporting. He pointed out that resource allocation and future development are closely linked to the volume of reported cases.Sharma called for efficient police administration and stronger trust between the police and the public, while emphasising the need to make full use of the newly inaugurated facilities.
