National-Level Shooter’s Sexual Assault Complaint Triggers POCSO Probe Against Coach

A 17-year-old national-level shooter has accused her coach of sexual assault, alleging the incident occurred at a hotel in Faridabad last month. According to the complaint, the coach pressured the teenager to meet him at his place of stay under the pretext of reviewing her performance in an ongoing competition. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The incident reportedly took place on December 16, 2025, following the athlete’s participation in a national-level shooting event at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in south Delhi. The FIR states that the coach initially requested the girl to meet him in the hotel lobby in the Surajkund area of Faridabad to analyse her match performance. However, upon her arrival, he allegedly coerced her into coming up to his room, claiming a more focused discussion was required. It was there that the assault allegedly occurred. Furthermore, the survivor claimed that the coach threatened to sabotage her sporting career and harm her family should she choose to disclose the incident.

Acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the Women Police Station in NIT Faridabad registered a case on Tuesday. The accused has been booked under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, given that the athlete was a minor at the time of the alleged offence, and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Senior police officials confirmed that multiple teams have been mobilised to gather forensic and electronic evidence. This includes the seizure of CCTV footage from the hotel, an analysis of call records, and the verification of travel details.

Investigators have already begun recording statements from hotel staff and other witnesses who were present at the premises during the competition period. A senior officer noted that the allegations are being treated with the utmost seriousness, and the coach is expected to be brought in for questioning imminently as the authorities seek to preserve all relevant evidence.
