BJP Attacks Samajwadi Party’s PDA Panchang Over Ram Temple Omission

The Samajwadi Party’s ‘PDA’ Panchang 2026 has triggered a political row after the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised it for omitting the Ram Temple construction date.

‘PDA’ refers to the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) political strategy, where PDA stands for Pichhda (Backward Classes), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (Minorities).

What did the BJP say?

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari attacked the PDA calendar, calling it a “Pakistani calendar". He said leaving out the Ram Temple date was not only opposition to Lord Ram but also an insult to Indian culture. He warned that the people of Uttar Pradesh would not accept such a move.

What the PDA Panchang includes

The PDA Panchang was released by Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav at the start of the new year. It was printed by party state secretary Ajay Chaurasia. The calendar highlights the birth and death anniversaries of social reformers and Muslim intellectuals linked to the PDA community.

Like other religious almanacs, it lists Amavasya, Purnima, fasts and festivals. It also includes national festivals, historic days, and important dates related to social movements.

Samajwadi Party’s stand

The Samajwadi Party said the PDA Panchang promotes social unity and awareness. Akhilesh Yadav said the unity, consciousness and struggle for rights of the PDA community are central to the socialist movement. He added that history stays alive when it is shared with the younger generation in a simple and organised way.

The absence of the Ram Temple construction date has added fuel to political tensions.
