Paris Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Aman Sehrawat was on Sunday, September 14, disqualified from the World Championships after being found overweight, according to reports.
In what brought back memories of Vinesh Phogat’s elimination from the Paris Olympics gold medal match, Aman was reportedly found 1.7kg overweight during the weigh-in ahead of his 57kg match.
Wrestlers are supposed to be the same weight as their category and even a few grams overweight can lead to a disqualification.
“It’s unfortunate and surprising that Aman could not maintain his weight. He was overweight by 1700 grams when he stood on the weight scale. This is not acceptable, actually," a source said while speaking to PTI.
Aman had reached Zagreb, Croatia, on August 25 for an acclimatisation camp along with other Indian wrestlers and had enough time to make weight.
The 22-year-old Aman, who trains at the famed Chhattrasal stadium, was one of the strong medal contenders among Indians.
