Patna-Ara stretch to remain fully shut for seven months from Wednesday

Travelers making their way between Patna and Ara are in for a challenging few months. A vital stretch of road in Danapur will be closed for an extended period from December 18 to July 15 due to elevated road construction. Alternative routes are set up, featuring adjusted schedules for school transport.

Patna: Commuters travelling frequently between Patna and Ara in Bhojpur have been advised to prepare for a major traffic disruption, as a key stretch of road will remain closed for over seven months due to construction work.

From Dec 18 to July 15, the road section between Shivala Chowk and Kanhauli in Danapur sub-division will be completely closed to all vehicular movement for the construction of an elevated road by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).A district official said the prolonged closure was essential to facilitate work on this crucial highway corridor. To minimise inconvenience to students, special arrangements have been made for vehicles ferrying children to educational institutions located along the affected stretch.

Such vehicles will be allowed to operate only between 7.30am and 8.30am and again from 2pm to 3pm. Officials said these timings may be revised later if school schedules change. To manage general traffic moving from Ara towards Patna, authorities have announced several diversion routes. “Travellers can go via Bihta Chowk to Maner and then proceed through Danapur Cantt toward Patna. Another option follows the same route till Maner before continuing through Sherpur, Chhitnawan, Usri Bazaar and Shivala to enter the city,” according to the traffic plan released by the office of the sub-divisional officer of Danapur on Tuesday.

An alternative route will allow commuters to travel from Bihta Chowk to Kanhauli at Sarmera Mor and then move through Naubatpur to reach AIIMS-Patna Square. Another similar route branches from Naubatpur Bazaar towards Shivala for those choosing that entry point into the city.“While the plan aims to maintain smooth flow, minor adjustments to traffic movement may occur in special circumstances. This disruption is part of the broader Danapur-Bihta elevated road project, which promises improved connectivity in the long run. The traffic plans are intended to distribute vehicular movement evenly and prevent severe bottlenecks,” the official said.
