Based on specific information that rice meant for the public distribution system (PDS) was being illegally transported for sale in the black market, officials intercepted a vehicle near the Vishwaradhya temple on Aland Road on the outskirts of Kalaburagi on Monday and seized 2,280 kg of rice.
Officials of the Sub-Urban Police Station along with the Food Inspector intercepted the vehicle near a petrol bunk connecting Aland Road and seized it along with the rice packets being transported to Osmanabad district in Maharashtra for illegal sale.
Officials seized the rice, valued at ₹82,000, and the vehicle worth about ₹5 lakh.
A case has been registered at the Sub-Urban Police Station against Siddu Poojari and driver Rahul Kalakutagi. Investigation is under way.
