PMC completes safety audit of drinking water across all wards

Patna: In the wake of a recent water contamination incident in Indore, where sewage seepage caused deaths and widespread illness, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed a safety audit of drinking water supply across all 75 wards of the city. The exercise was undertaken to assess the integrity of the water distribution network and prevent a similar public health crisis in Patna.PMC technical teams collected water samples from five locations in each ward. The samples were tested for total dissolved solids (TDS) and other scientific parameters. According to a report submitted to PMC headquarters on Monday, water quality and TDS levels across the city were found to be within prescribed safety limits. However, the audit flagged a few locations with technical blockages or minor quality concerns. The municipal commissioner has directed immediate corrective measures, including pipeline cleaning and the provision of alternative water sources wherever required. Officials concerned have been asked to submit action taken reports (ATRs) within three days.To strengthen long-term safeguards, PMC is enhancing its routine laboratory testing and field inspection mechanisms. Residents have been urged to report any water quality issues through the PMC helpline 155304.
