The birthday celebrations of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy took an ugly turn when a pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by a party activist at Muthyalavaripalle village in Tanakallu mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district late on Sunday.

According to locals, a party activist identified as Ajay organised fireworks involving high-decibel crackers during the celebrations. The loud noise reportedly caused discomfort to a pregnant woman, Sandhyarani. When her family members urged the organisers to stop bursting such crackers, it led to an argument.

The family members alleged that Ajay lost his cool and physically assaulted Sandhyarani, despite knowing that she was pregnant. She was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Kadiri town for medical care. Hospital authorities said that her condition was stable.

The incident led to outrage in the village, with the neighbourhood demanding criminal action against the accused. On Monday, Kadiri TDP MLA Kandikunta Venkata Prasad visited the hospital and spoke to the victim and her family members, assuring them that prompt legal action would be initiated against those responsible for the incident.

A police official said that the incident was under investigation and the medical records would also be verified.
