A protest erupted on Monday in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district following the death by suicide of a booth level officer (BLO), allegedly due to work pressure linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The demonstrators, allegedly affiliated to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), submitted a deputation to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
The deceased, identified as Hamimul Islam (47), was found hanging inside a primary school in the Paikmari Char area under Ranitala police station on Saturday night. Police said Islam was a primary school teacher and was also serving as a BLO in Purba Alaipur village under the Kharibona gram panchayat.
