The Vice-President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday said that spirituality helps in making people good and responsible citizens in a society.
He was addressing devotees at Sri Narayani Peedam, which is also known as Golden Temple, in Thirumalaikodi village on the outskirts of Vellore Corporation limits. “Spirituality transcends all other powers in the world in binding people together. It spreads the virtue of kindness among people and turns them into responsible citizens in a society,” he said.
The Vice-President said that spirituality helps individuals do good deeds in their lives. It helps to bring a disciplined way of life in individuals, who would be guided by moral values rather than being self-centered. “Spirituality lies everywhere in society. It cannot be destroyed by anyone as it is deep-rooted in the minds of people in every country,” he said.
Recalling his visit to the Golden Temple many years ago, Mr. Radhakrishnan noted that he visited the temple along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter was serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002. Since then, he has visited the temple many times, strengthening the spirituality in him. “The former Indian Presidents like A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind and incumbent President Droupadi Murmu had visited the Golden Temple as it serves as a centre for spirituality in the country,” he said.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan was present on the occasion. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan and Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi met Vice-President Mr. Radhakrishnan at the helipad in the temple as a courtesy call.
Around 1,300 police personnel were deployed for the Vice-President’s visit to Vellore on Saturday. The district was declared a no-fly zone for the visit. Operation of drones and other non-conventional aerial objects were prohibited as part of security measures for the visit.
