Calangute: A fire which broke out at an under-construction resort in Calangute on Tuesday morning led to three fire engines being scrambled from Pilerne, Mapusa and Porvorim fire stations.
However, the blaze had gutted only a small storeroom. No one was injured in the incident.Pilerne fire station officials said they received a call around 6.45am informing them of the fire, following which they rushed to the spot at Naikawaddo, Calangute, and started firefighting operations. “The staff present did not provide an estimate of the loss. It is an under-construction building, so a lot of materials like paint cans, furniture, sofas and hardware were kept there, a lot of which were burnt,” officials said.Fire and emergency officials said they rushed three fire engines to the spot as a precautionary measure, apprehending a serious situation in the aftermath of the Arpora nightclub fire tragedy that claimed 25 lives.The cause of the fire is not known, they said. “There was only one security guard when the fire started early morning,” officials said.On the safety measures in the building and inspection, officials said since the building is under construction, no such inspection of safety norms was conducted.
