The Telangana State Human Rights Commission has taken cognisance of the continuing public safety and human rights concern arising from the unchecked circulation of the banned Chinese manja. The Commission has directed Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V.C. Sajjanar, to submit a comprehensive report on the issue by February 26.
The action follows a series of petitions filed by human rights advocate, Immaneni Ramarao, on December 27 and December 29, highlighting multiple incidents of severe injuries caused by Chinese manja — which is prohibited in Telangana.
The petitioner urged the Commission to ensure strict enforcement of the ban and to take strong action against its sale, including on e-commerce platforms.
The report sought from Mr. Sajjanar is expected to outline the measures taken by the police and other departments to curb the manufacture, transport and sale of Chinese manja, the number of cases booked and seizures made, and the steps proposed to strengthen enforcement and public awareness. The matter has been posted for further hearing after receipt of the report scheduled for 11 a.m. on February 26, 2026.
