UP Congress chief Ajay Rai hospital after fainting at Lucknow home

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai was hospitalised on Friday after he fainted and his health deteriorated, the party said.

Rai was attending a party programme when he reportedly began experiencing severe uneasiness, pain and discomfort. He later lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow, where he has been admitted to the emergency ward.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Congress, Rai fainted at his residence in the evening due to low sodium levels. Doctors are currently monitoring his condition and conducting medical tests.

A team of doctors is attending to him, and he is currently under observation in the emergency unit.

Rai is a prominent political figure from eastern Uttar Pradesh and a former MLA from Varanasi. He joined the Congress in 2016 after leaving the BJP and has since been one of the party's key faces in the state.

In 2023, he was appointed as the Uttar Pradesh Congress president, taking charge at a time when the party was attempting to revive its organisational strength in the state.
