Senior US officials are preparing for a potential military strike on Iran in the coming days, signaling a shift in Washington’s posture as it moves closer to directly entering the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, Bloomberg reported citing people in the know. Though plans remain fluid, multiple sources told the outlet that discussions have taken place about the possibility of a weekend strike. Leadership across key federal agencies is reportedly bracing for action with some officials already laying groundwork for a rapid military response.
What Donald Trump Has Said On Possible Iran Strike
This comes as US President Donald Trump openly floated the idea of launching an attack on Iran, telling reporters at the White House, that he has “ideas as to what to do," while adding that he often makes the “final decision one second before it’s due."
Donald Trump also responded cryptically when asked about the likelihood of military engagement. “I may do it. I may not do it," he said while a White House official confirmed that “all options remain on the table"- a marked shift from US President’s earlier calls for diplomacy.
Pressure In US For Iran Strike?
The change in tone follows mounting pressure from close allies and lawmakers who warn that Iran is approaching nuclear weapons capability. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina emerged as a key voice urging Donald Trump toward military action. Lindsey Graham, who has reportedly spoken with the US President multiple times this week, said, “He gave them a chance for diplomacy. I think they made a miscalculation. The sooner we end this threat to mankind, the better."
In a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump said he encouraged Israel to “keep going" with its operations against Iran, while making clear the US had not committed to joining the offensive.
What Iran Has Said On US Entering Conflict
Iran has continued to push for negotiations as the country’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that Tehran remains “committed to diplomacy" and does not seek nuclear arms.
