Karthi's 'Vaa Vaathiyaar' is all set for a Pongal release on January 14th after the makers successfully settled a significant financial dispute. A Rs 21.78 crore loan issue, which had led to a temporary stay on the film's release, has now been resolved. All legal hurdles for Karthi’s next film ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ have been cleared, enabling the film to hit the theatres on January 14 as planned. There was doubt over the release of the film due to an old financial dispute that has now been settled after following the orders of the observer.
As the loan amount has been repaid in full, the interim stay on the film’s release has been vacated, much to the delight of the producers as well as the audience gearing up for yet another Pongal treat.
Loan dispute reaches High Court
The controversy stemmed from a loan taken from Arjunlal Sunderdas, which later became the subject of legal proceedings. News18 reported details of the financial dispute and the legal proceedings. A plea was filed before the Madras High Court by the court-appointed administrator managing Arjunlal’s assets, seeking directions to recover Rs 21.78 crore, including interest, from producer Gnanavel Raja.
The petition also urged the court to restrain the release of 'Vaa Vaathiyaar' until the dues were cleared.
Interim stay lifted after court records partial and full payments
The Madras High Court, acting on the plea, passed a temporary order restraining the release of the film clearly stating that it should not be lifted until the entire repayment was done. When the case came up for hearing in a bench led by Justice S.M. Subramaniam, Rs 3.75 crore as demand draft was submitted on behalf of the producers.
Referring to the partial payment made, the judge said that the film could be released for Pongal once the balance amount was settled within time.
Full settlement paves way for Pongal release
As a result, the whole pending amount of Rs 21.85 crore due to the administrator was settled, ending the allegations once and for all. After the loan was settled, there was no legal obstacle or dispute over the release of the film, and 'Vaa Vaathiyaar' will be released on January 14th. The film is directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, starring Karthi and heroine Krithi Shetty, with music by Santhosh Narayanan. The film is now set for a smooth release on the day of the festival, having surmounted several legal and financial challenges.Disclaimer: This article is for informational purposes only and is based on reported news of court proceedings and legal claims.
