Nicolas Jackson's loan move to Bayern Munich collapsed after Chelsea recalled him due to Liam Delap's injury, leaving Enzo Maresca with limited striker options.

So close yet so far. Nicolas Jackson’s trial by fire continues at Chelsea.
Bayern Munich confirmed on Saturday evening that their proposed loan deal for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson had collapsed, after the Premier League club pulled out at the last minute.
The 23-year-old Senegal international had travelled to Germany on Saturday morning and was expected to finalise a season-long loan agreement with the Bundesliga champions, which included an option to buy.
However, Chelsea’s stance changed just hours later. During their 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge, forward Liam Delap picked up an injury. With Enzo Maresca suddenly left with only one fully fit striker, the club decided to recall Jackson before he could sign his Bayern contract.
Bayern Confirm Deal Collapse
Speaking after Bayern’s 3-2 Bundesliga win at Augsburg, sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the deal was no longer viable.
“Chelsea informed us that they would like the player back after we agreed yesterday," Eberl told reporters.
“The situation now is that the lad is here in Munich, but we are sending him back."
Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023, had been earmarked as cover for Harry Kane, with Bayern short of attacking depth following the summer departures of Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, and Mathys Tel.
The sudden collapse created uncertainty. Jackson’s agent briefly appeared to deny the news, writing on social media:
“We’re not going back. The plane doesn’t go backwards: Munich."
But Bayern’s confirmation later in the evening ended any remaining doubts.
Chelsea’s Striker Dilemma
For Chelsea, the decision underlined a lack of depth in attack. Manager Enzo Maresca revealed after the Fulham victory that Delap could be sidelined for up to two months.
“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it’s not enough," Maresca admitted.
