 Elon Musk’s Twitter goes down for second time in three days, thousands affected

X, formerly Twitter, has suffered a major outage. The massive downtime on Friday (January 16) marks the second time in just three days that Elon Musk-owned social media platform has been knocked offline, rendering thousands of users unable to access posts, photos and videos.

According to performance monitoring service Downdetector.com, a huge part of the user base claims issues with the app and website, while others blame server problems. The problems began surfacing at around 8.30 pm with complaints reaching their peak at around 8:45 pm. Incident reports on Downdetector exceeded 74,000 globally while roughly 6,200 originated from India. Members of The Times of India tech team were unable to load new posts and were frequently stuck on a ‘black page’ on both the website and mobile devices.

Some were greeted with “Something went wrong. Try reloading”, message.When it comes to user complaints, 56% of global users reported problems in accessing the app while 39% of affected users struggled with accessing the website. Roughly 10% said they experienced server connection failures and problem related to feed/ timeline, as per Downdetector. X has not issued any public statement regarding the cause of the problems.

The January 16 outage is latest in a series of technical faults, following similar widespread disruptions on January 13, in November last year, in October due to Cloudflare, and in July and August, preventing thousands from using the service.This is a developing story...
