Adani Foundation Revamps Anganwadis in Tribal Umarpada Villages

Surat: An important initiative giving a new impetus to rural development in the tribal-dominated Umarpada taluka of Surat district was recently realized. The reconstructed Anganwadi centers were e-inaugurated by Adani Foundation during the state-level program of inauguration and foundation stone laying organized by the District Panchayat Surat. The program was attended by District Panchayat President Bhaviniben Patel, MLA Ganpatbhai Vasava, District Development Officer Shivani Goyal (IAS), along with officers, sarpanches and more than 700 villagers.

The Adani Foundation has reconstructed the Anganwadis of six villages of Umarpada taluka—Pinpur, Sharda, Jhumawadi, Vakrantamba, Sewlan and Satwan—on modern standards. Educational paintings based on BALA (Building as Learning Aid), colourful walls, safe structure and hygiene-based facilities have made these centres more inspiring and suitable for learning and playing for children. Special attention has been given to cleanliness, security and educational environment in the newly constructed Anganwadis, which will prove to be conducive for the physical, mental and intellectual development of children.

During the program, the Adani Foundation’s impact report included promotion of natural farming, access to water for farmers through solar irrigation assistance, development activities for the Kotwali community, a primitive group among the tribals, and income-generating assistance for them, employment-oriented activities for Self Help Groups (SHGs), and efforts to strengthen livestock-based livelihoods.

The District Development Officer and local leaders jointly termed cooperation between the government and private organizations as essential for social development. They publicly appreciated the continuous social development efforts made by the Adani Foundation in Umarpada. The people of Umarpada expressed confidence that this initiative will improve health, education, sanitation, and livelihoods.

Health, education, sanitation, natural farming, and livelihoods will prove to be important for the improvement of Umarpada and the surrounding tribal areas. The program expressed confidence that the joint efforts of the government and social organizations are giving a new direction to rural development. District Development Officer Shivani Goel, District Panchayat President Bhaviniben Patel and MLA Ganpatbhai Vasava, in their addresses, publicly praised the various social development activities and continuous efforts being carried out by the Adani Foundation in the Umarpada area.
