After the 21-hour peace talks in Pakistan’s Islamabad, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iranian Parliament, in a statement demanded real US trust.

“Iran approached the recent negotiations held in Pakistan with clear goodwill and concrete forward-looking initiatives from its delegation," said Ghalibaf.

“We started these talks despite negative experiences from two prior wars. Ultimately, the US side failed to rebuild confidence in this round. The US has now understood Iran’s core logic and principles the next step is for America to decide whether it can genuinely earn Iran’s trust going forward," said the speaker.

“Iran sees diplomacy of power assertive, strength-based negotiations as a parallel tool to military action. This is not pause efforts to lock in the achievements gained during the recent 40-day national defense of the Iranian people," he said.

Iran thanked Pakistan for actively facilitating and mediating the negotiation process and also sent warm greetings to Pakistanis.

“The entire Iranian nation of 90 million strong is praised as a unified single body for backing the negotiating team through street presence and prayers under Supreme Leader guidance," he said.

What the statement means

The statement showed optimism and acknowledged US understanding of Iran’s position, according to top intelligence sources.

He is firmly insisting America must now rebuild trust lost from past conflicts. At the same time, Tehran makes clear it will not ease pressure continuing diplomacy of power alongside military gains from the 40-defence. They are using Pakistan as a positive mediator to project strength and national unity, said sources.

What happened after the peace talks?

The high-level peace talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended on April 12, 2026, without a final agreement. Despite 21 hours of direct negotiations mediated by Pakistan, both delegations departed the capital as the conflict remains unresolved.

US Vice President JD Vance announced that the talks failed to reach a deal to end the six-week-old war. The US delegation reportedly presented what they termed their “final and best offer" before leaving, though Vance indicated Tehran still has time to consider these terms.

A two-week ceasefire, which began on April 8 and is set to expire on April 22, remains in a precarious state. Pakistani officials have urged both nations to maintain the truce despite the lack of a formal peace treaty.

Iranian negotiators described the session as “constructive" despite the outcome, noting that a single meeting was unlikely to resolve decades of mistrust and that future diplomatic contacts are expected.
