DGCA put the army officer on no-fly list for five years after he assaulted four SpiceJet staff at Srinagar Airport over excess baggage.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday placed an Army officer on the national no-fly list for five years after he assaulted four SpiceJet employees at Srinagar Airport over a baggage dispute.

The ban applies across all domestic and international flights operated by Indian carriers, effectively grounding him from air travel until 2030.

The violent altercation occurred on July 26, when the officer, later identified as a Lieutenant Colonel posted at the Army’s High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg, lashed out at ground staff after being asked to pay for excess cabin baggage. SpiceJet employees were punched, kicked and even struck with a queue stand, leaving one staffer with spinal fractures and another with jaw injuries.
