Elite Women's Boxing Tournament: Nikhat, Lovlina, Nitu Enter Final

Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora advanced to the finals in the Elite Women's Boxing Tournament.

World champions Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas, and Saweety Boora secured varying victories to advance to the finals of their respective weight categories in the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament on Monday.

Two-time world champion Zareen once again shone on home ground, defeating V Lakshaya with a clean 5-0 decision, setting up a 51kg final against Jyoti (RSPB).

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Borgohain advanced to the 75kg final after overpowering Sneha (Uttar Pradesh) with a first-round stoppage (RSC).

Nitu, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, out-punched Railways’ Manju Rani to enter the 48kg final, where she will face Chanchal (SAI N).

Saweety also delivered a commanding performance in the 80kg semifinal, outclassing Babita Bisht of All India Police 5-0.

In the 65kg division, former youth world champion Ankushita Boro (TOPS) out-boxed Amita Kundu (AIP) to win 5-0 and will face Shashi (RSPB) in the final, who defeated Telangana’s Yashi Sharma by the same margin.

Preeti (TOPS) and Tanu (SSCB) won their respective 54kg semifinals, setting up a high-octane final. In the 57kg category, Babirojsana Chanu (RSPB) and Kamaljeet Kaur Gill (AIP) progressed, with the latter winning via a 3:2 split decision.

Among other notable names, Alfiya Pathan (RSPB) recorded an RSC win in the second round to reach the 80kg final, where she will meet Saweety.

In the 80+kg final, Ritika (SAI N) will face Shivani Tomar (AIP) after their decisive wins over Neha (RSPB) and Mankirat Kaur (PUN), respectively.

• (51-54kg): PREETI (TOPS) vs. TANU (SSCB)
• (54-57kg): BABIROJSANA CHANU (RSPB) vs. KAMALJEET KAUR GILL (AIP)
• (57-60kg): ANJALI (HAR) vs. PRACHI (RSPB)
• (60-65kg): SHASHI (RSPB) vs. ANKUSHITA BORO (TOPS)
• (65-70kg): GITIMONI GOGOI (SAIN) vs. SHIVANI (DEL)
• (70-75kg): LOVLINA (TOPS) vs. LASHU YADAV (RSPB)
• (75-80kg): ALFIYA (RSPB) vs. SAWEETY (SAIN)
• (80-80+kg): RITIKA (SAIN) vs. SHIVANITOMAR (AIP)
