New Delhi: Google has started to rolling out its latest Gemini, powered by AI features in the Chrome browser, to users in India. This latest update integrates the Gemini 3.1 model directly into Chrome, enabling users to interact with the Gemini AI assistant while browsing. The users can summarise long webpages, compare information across multiple tabs, draft emails through Gmail, and even edit images without leaving the browser.
Google is also adding support for more than 50 additional languages, such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. These AI features will initially be available on the desktop and iOS devices and are focused on helping users complete tasks faster while browsing.
Gemini in Chrome is also rolling out to users in New Zealand and Canada. Gemini in Chrome acts as a browsing assistant that users can access without switching tabs. By clicking the icon in the top-right corner of the browser, users can start chatting with Gemini in the side panel while continuing to browse the page they are on.
The assistant can help to summarise long articles or research papers, answer questions about the content on the page, and even help with tasks like generating quizzes for studying. It can also help to modify information, such as indicating the changes to recipes or explaining complex topics.
AI features also connect with several Google services, such as Gmail, Maps, Calendar, and YouTube. These integrations enable users to perform tasks without leaving the page they are browsing.
The users can open the side panel, ask for an auto draft, and send an email via Gmail. They can also check the location details from Google Maps, schedule events on Google Calendar, or ask questions related to YouTube videos directly from the browser interface.
The aim is to reduce the need to open multiple tabs or applications while completing everyday online tasks. This means that the AI can collect information from several pages and present it in a consolidated format.
AI features have been esepcially designed with the security measures in place. The system can automatically identify the known threats such as those prompt injection attempts and it also includes safeguards that will require the user confirmation before performing any of the sensitive actions like sending emails or adding calendar events.
It also uses the automated testing and Chrome’s auto-update system to address potential vulnerabilities and roll out fixes quickly. More AI features and language support will be added to Chrome in additional regions later this year.
