Ahmedabad: Gujarat has topped the list of states across the country under the Government of India’s “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Projects” scheme. As per the figures up to February 28, 2026, Gujarat is at the top with an approved power generation capacity of 12,150 megawatts (MW). This important information was given by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripal Yesso Naik in the Rajya Sabha in response to a written question asked by MP Parimal Nathwani.
Total 54 solar parks in the country, out of which 7 are in Gujarat
The Minister said that the Government of India has approved a total of 54 solar parks across the country, with a total power generation capacity of 39,188 MW. After Gujarat, Rajasthan is at the second position in this list, where 10,726 MW capacity has been approved under 11 solar parks. The 7 solar parks approved in Gujarat are a testament to its geographical location and the government’s proactive policies.
How many large solar parks are there in which district of Gujarat?
Kutch district has the largest contribution to Gujarat’s total capacity of 12,150 MW. The details are as follows:
1 NTPC RE Park, Kutch District 4,750 MW
2 GSECL RE Park, Kutch District 3,325 MW
3 GIPCL RE Park (Phase-I, II, III), Kutch 2,375Mw
4 Dholera Solar Park, Ahmedabad District 1,000 MW
5 Radhanesda Solar Park, Banaskantha District 700 MW
Total Capacity 12,150 MW
Challenges in the implementation of the project
MP Parimal Nathwani also inquired about the difficulties faced in the implementation of this scheme and the steps taken by the government. In response, the Minister admitted that the main challenges are land acquisition, preparation of transmission infrastructure (power lines), coordination with the project timeline and delay in fixing tariffs (electricity rates). However, the Central Government is in constant touch with the states and the concerned departments to overcome these difficulties.
Thus, Gujarat is strengthening its foothold in the field of clean energy and solar energy, which will prove to be important for the state’s energy needs and environmental protection in the future.
