The Minnesota Timberwolves may not be ready to give up on chasing Giannis Antetokounmpo just yet. After another playoff run ended without an NBA Finals appearance, fresh league rumors now suggest Minnesota could again make a serious push for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar this offseason.
The latest update came from insider Darren Wolfson during an appearance on the Flagrant Howls podcast, where he claimed there has been mutual interest between Giannis and Minnesota dating back to February. The report has quickly added more excitement around the Timberwolves’ offseason plans. With Anthony Edwards already becoming the face of the franchise, Minnesota reportedly feels it may need one more elite player to truly compete with rising Western Conference powers.
At the same time, new rumors involving Kyrie Irving and the Milwaukee Bucks could also play a major role in shaping Giannis’ long-term future.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kyrie Irving Rumors Could Shape Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks Offseason
Team president Tim Connelly reportedly still believes the roster needs major changes after back-to-back playoff disappointments. Minnesota has remained competitive, but the franchise clearly wants to take the next step toward a championship.Wolfson also explained why the organization may feel pressure to act fast. He said, “So roster changes need to come for this team to have a fighting chance the next couple of years.”Of course, any possible trade for Giannis would not be easy. Milwaukee would likely demand a massive package involving multiple players, draft picks, and young talent before even considering a deal for the two-time NBA MVP.Meanwhile, another interesting rumor has quietly entered the picture. According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, some league executives believe the Bucks could look for another star player to convince Giannis to stay in Milwaukee long term.
That is where Kyrie Irving’s name has started appearing in conversations. One league source told Deveney, “The Mavericks are saying they like Irving as a veteran mentor but in reality, they need to clear the decks around Cooper Flagg and move on.”Even though Irving is currently recovering from injury, many teams still view him as one of the league’s top offensive guards. If Milwaukee somehow finds a way to pair Irving with Giannis, it could completely change the direction of the franchise and possibly end trade speculation around the Bucks star. For now, both Minnesota and Milwaukee appear headed toward a very important offseason that could shift the balance of power in the NBA.
