Iran’s nuclear programme will not be discussed during the latest round of talks between Tehran and Washington in Switzerland on Sunday, Fars news agency reported, citing a source in the Iranian negotiating team.
The source said International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has no role in the current negotiations and that none of the members of Iran’s nuclear committee are part of the delegation attending the talks. Discussions on Tehran’s nuclear file, the source added, would only be considered if the implementation of clauses 1, 4, 10 and 11 of an earlier understanding begins. Follow for live updates

The high-level meeting at the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock near Lake Lucerne is underway. Delegations from Iran, the United States and mediators Qatar and Pakistan are attending the Lake Lucerne Summit. Qatar has confirmed the launch of the talks, saying they are aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting agreement under a memorandum of understanding signed by Washington and Tehran earlier this month.
Lebanon Ceasefire, Frozen Assets Take Centre Stage
Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported that discussions are focused on securing a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon and addressing Iran’s frozen assets abroad. “A tripartite meeting involving Iran, the United States and Qatar on the subjects of a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon and Iran’s blocked assets is currently being held at the negotiation venue," state broadcaster IRIB said in a report.
In a post on X shared earlier today, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said a direct quadrilateral meeting involving all four delegations was expected later in the day.
The talks come amid efforts to end months of conflict that erupted after US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February and expanded into Lebanon, where fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has repeatedly threatened ceasefire arrangements. Iran has linked progress towards a final agreement to an end to hostilities in Lebanon, while Israel has said its forces will remain in what it describes as a security zone in southern Lebanon despite the ongoing diplomatic efforts.
