CPI National secretary K. Ramakrishna on Tuesday asserted that Amaravati remained the rightful capital of Andhra Pradesh, and said the BJP was equally responsible for the prolonged uncertainty surrounding its development.

Addressing the media here, Mr. Ramakrishna said that after Parliament granted legal backing to Amaravati, all parties were duty-bound to respect it, but political inconsistency and inaction delayed progress.

Recalling that the former Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, had supported Amaravati before changing his stand, which, the CPI leader said, had been rejected by the people. He accused the BJP leaders of failing to clearly defend the capital despite earlier commitments.

Referring to the other issues in the State, Mr. Ramakrishna faulted Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for making fresh promises on Rayalaseema development, while several long-pending irrigation projects remained incomplete. He urged the government to expedite the river-linking works and fulfill the commitments made under the A.P. Reorganisation Act.

War impact

Mr. Ramakrishna also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, warning that the war was having global repercussions. He criticised U.S. President Donald Trump for pursuing aggressive policies, alleging that civilian casualties and instability were rising due to continued military action. He said the impact of the conflict was already visible in India through rising prices and economic strain on the common people.

CPI State secretary G. Eswaraiah was present.
