Just hours later, Nate Heise hit a late three point shot that lifted Iowa State past No. 2 Houston in a thrilling college basketball game. Two big wins, one family and one unforgettable day. Taylor Heise, playing in her first Winter Olympics, helped the United States women’s hockey team roll past Sweden with a 5 to 0 victory in the semifinal round. Her goal was part of a fast and sharp team effort that sent the Americans into the gold medal game.The U.S. women will now face longtime rival Canada in the gold medal match scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. While Taylor Heise was celebrating overseas, Nate Heise was getting ready for his own pressure moment back home. The Iowa State guard stepped up late against the Houston Cougars. With the game tight, he knocked down a go ahead three point shot that pushed the No. 6 Cyclones to a 70 to 67 win in front of their home crowd.

He added, “They all like competing against each other. It’s fun.”There is clearly a healthy rivalry between the siblings. Each one pushes the other. And on Monday, that energy showed.After Iowa State’s win, Nate Heise spoke to reporters about the special day. He said, “Pretty good day.” He explained that some family members in Milan likely went to sleep before his game tipped off. “So they’ll wake up to some fun texts,” he said.Nate also shared that he watched his sister’s performance before heading out to play his own game. Seeing Taylor Heise score on the Olympic stage seemed to give him extra motivation.In just a few hours, the Heise family saw Olympic hockey success and a top ranked college basketball upset. It does not happen often that siblings shine on such big stages on the same day. For the Heises, Monday will always stand out.
