Novak Djokovic battled back from a shaky start to defeat Australia’s Alex de Minaur and reach his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final on Monday—under the watchful eye of eight-time champion Roger Federer.

The 37-year-old Serbian star overcame early struggles on Centre Court to prevail 1–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 in a fourth-round encounter that tested him more than any previous match in the tournament so far.

Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon winner, remains firmly in pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. A triumph on Sunday would also bring him level with Federer’s record of eight men’s singles titles at the All England Club.

The Swiss legend, now retired, watched the clash from the Royal Box, witnessing his longtime rival navigate a difficult opening set before regaining command.

Slow Start, Early Errors

Djokovic looked unusually flat early, broken in the first game and dropping the opening set after conceding two more breaks and hitting 16 unforced errors, including four double faults, as De Minaur dominated with sharp movement and aggression.

The sixth seed responded with an immediate break in the second set but got pulled into a grueling 19-minute game that De Minaur won after saving five break points. Despite the ongoing tension and service breaks, Djokovic steadied himself and clinched the set as De Minaur went long.

The third set stayed on serve until De Minaur netted a forehand in the ninth game, giving Djokovic the edge. In the fourth, De Minaur led 4–1 but faltered as Djokovic, backed by the crowd and his trademark grit, won five straight games to seal the victory.

A Familiar Path Forward

The victory sets up a quarter-final showdown with 22nd-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli. Should Djokovic advance, a blockbuster semi-final against world number one Jannik Sinner could await.
