Recognizing the structured progress made under the current leadership, World Boxing has officially extended the tenure of the Interim Committee managing the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) until August 31, 2025. The committee, chaired by Ajay Singh, was initially appointed in April to oversee daily operations and bring stability to Indian boxing governance.

Focus on Structure, Stability, and Athletes

In its first 90 days, the Interim Committee prioritized transparency and athlete welfare. It successfully organized domestic championships across all age groups—U15, U17, and Elite—followed by international participation with an “Athletes First" approach. These efforts have helped Indian boxing regain momentum on the global stage.

In a letter addressed to Ajay Singh, World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst lauded the committee’s work in restoring credibility and ensuring international success.

“We are pleased to observe that the Interim Committee has been functioning effectively and has made significant strides in restoring transparency and stability within the national boxing administration," wrote van der Vorst. “These achievements are a reflection of the structured and positive efforts being undertaken under your leadership."

He further emphasized the importance of continuity ahead of major domestic and continental events, requesting the committee to continue overseeing the BFI’s operations to ensure smooth participation of Indian athletes.

International Success for Indian Boxers

India’s boxers have shown consistent international success during the Interim Committee’s tenure. Most recently, they won 11 medals—including three gold and five silver—at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. Earlier, Indian athletes claimed six medals in the Brazil leg of the Cup and delivered a strong performance at the Thailand International Open.

Van der Vorst also mentioned his recent interaction with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, who expressed her support for the Interim Committee’s initiatives and praised its efforts to rebuild Indian boxing with transparency and athlete-centric policies.
