‘I have been informed this morning that…’

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has told Parliament that Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), is moving to comply with the UK’s law following an announcement of formal investigation into sexualized AI-generated photos.

Earlier this week, the UK’s media regulator Ofcom launched a probe into the platform, which was triggered by concerns that X’s AI chatbot, Grok, was being used to create sexually intimate deepfake images, potentially violating the platform's duty to protect citizens from illegal content."I have been informed this morning that X is acting to ensure full compliance with UK law," Starmer told parliament, while noting that the government is ready to take further measures if needed.Meanwhile, country’s Technology Minister Liz Kendall announced that a new law that will make the creation of sexual deepfakes a criminal offense will come into force this week. Kendall described such images as “weapons of abuse”.

Elon Musk says, 'Grok will obey'

Soon after the Prime Minister’s remarks, Elon Musk addressed the controversy on X, asserting that the AI was designed with legal boundaries in mind.“I not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok.

Literally zero. Obviously, Grok does not spontaneously generate images, it does so only according to user requests,” he said in a post.“When asked to generate images, it will refuse to produce anything illegal, as the operating principle for Grok is to obey the laws of any given country or state. There may be times when adversarial hacking of Grok prompts does something unexpected. If that happens, we fix the bug immediately,” he added.X faced criticism for its handling of generative AI. Earlier this month, the social media website said it was restricting “undress” requests and later made the feature available only to paying subscribers, rather than banning the practice entirely.
