A motorable bridge on the Jyotirmath-Malari highway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district was washed away due to heavy rains early Sunday, cutting off connectivity to more than a dozen villages in the border area of Niti Valley.

District administration officials said the seasonal Tamak stream had swelled due to continuous rainfall, and its gushing waters damaged the bridge around 2 am.

No loss of life has been reported in the incident, which occurred near the banks of the Dhauliganga, a tributary of the Alaknanda river.

Meanwhile, the Badrinath National Highway has been closed after debris accumulated at two locations — Bhanirpani and Paaglanala — between Chamoli and Jyotirmath. The district administration said machinery is being used to remove the debris and restore traffic.

The Kund–Chamoli National Highway, which connects Kedarnath to Chamoli, is also blocked due to a landslide near Bairagana. Efforts are underway to clear the route
