Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked on Sunday night, triggering a wave of bizarre and taunting posts that forced the club to step in and warn supporters.
Fernandes, who rarely uses the platform, had last posted back in October to mark his 300th appearance for United. But shortly after 11pm GMT, his account suddenly sprang to life — and not in a good way.
The hack began with what appeared to be routine cryptocurrency scam posts, asking followers for help “making a coin" and claiming confusion over crypto platforms. Within minutes, the tone shifted sharply.

Posts mocking Manchester United’s current struggles — just hours after their FA Cup elimination by Brighton — appeared, including jabs like “Man Utd are in the dumps" and “This is why I need to get paid more."

One post even called for United’s ownership group, INEOS, to be ditched.

Things spiralled further as the hacked account tagged adult star Bonnie Blue, the England cricket team, YouTuber KSI and world darts champion Luke Littler, while one message bizarrely promoted Macclesfield FC, fresh off their historic FA Cup upset of Crystal Palace.

As confusion spread, Manchester United quickly confirmed the breach, posting a clear warning:
Bruno Fernandes’s X account has been hacked.Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages.

“Bruno Fernandes’ X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any posts or direct messages."
Despite the statement, the hacker continued to taunt fans. One of the final posts resurfaced an image of United’s infamous 7–0 defeat to Liverpool in 2023, rubbing salt into fresh wounds.
The incident adds Fernandes to a growing list of high-profile players targeted online. Kylian Mbappe’s account was hacked in 2024, posting messages about Ronaldo, Messi and Premier League clubs.
By late night, the posts were deleted.
